Now that spring has sprung, it’s time to bring our outdoor living spaces back to life.  If you are looking for a fun way to light up your deck or patio – check out what I did!

I have a small outdoor space on our deck, and I want to show you my new favorite patio light string ideas I have implemented on my deck and LOVE IT!  I have wanted patio solar light strings and a solar lantern than hung from the pergola that my husband custom built over our deck swing. Since we live on a very quiet street in rural western, NY, I wanted to create an outdoor area that was cozy and allowed for evening relaxing, including pretty lights while we are in the hot tub, or just sitting on the deck swing while we watch fireflies. Our pergola is also surrounded by a Trumpet Vine. 

My mother-in-law has a prolific trumpet vine at her house that is around her deck and both my husband and I just love how hardy it is. It creates beautiful bright orange “trumpet” shaped flowers that attract many hummingbirds.

This outdoor space surrounded by outdoor lights (including globe lights) is a seating area that creates a patio space filled with the warm glow of white lights perfect for any summer night.

I worked with Lights4Fun.com to get this lantern.  They have an amazing selection of decorative outdoor lighting for any occasion.  Whether you are having a backyard wedding, celebrating Memorial Day, 4th of July, or just want some outdoor string lights (especially globe lights), they have it!

 

Here is my outdoor area that my husband built using wooden posts and 2×4’s to create a lovely way to display outdoor string lights along with a Moroccan lantern to create enough light to create a relaxing atmosphere as the sun goes down. We would top it off with an outdoor fire pit on our deck, but since we live in a very rural area, we have a large fire pit in our yard. No enclosure needed!

Above the Moroccan lantern from Lights4Fun.com, I have outdoor use light bulbs in strings of lights. They give off a warm glow that complements the details in the oblong-shaped solar lantern. We planted a trumpet vine that has been very prolific and grows easily around our pergola. It makes “trumpet” shaped flowers that attract numerous hummingbirds all summer long. During the day, I love looking at the bright orange flowers with hummingbirds in the inside drinking nectar. At night, I love the solar lights that give off a cozy glow that makes this outdoor backyard string light idea perfect for a unique look that is an effective way to create a romantic outdoor space.

Here is the Moroccan lantern hanging in the center of the pergola at night.  It creates the perfect mood lighting for any summer evening!

On the right side of the swing, I have a gray wood flameless light lantern similar to this one, that I put on a plant stand to enhance the evening lighting atmosphere.  

On the left side, I have a smaller flameless light dark brown lantern, (I used the same one on my above the toilet floating shelves) along with an unscented real wax LED pillar candle and a Luminara Glitter Pillar Candle (I have an iridescent glitter-covered candle, but Amazon only has a gold glitter-covered one.).

My original swing fabric rotted out and I needed to re-web my swing.  I then bought some new porch swing cushions (Pillow Perfect Outdoor/Indoor Carmody Navy Bench/Swing Cushion, 45″ x 18″, Blue.)  These cushions are a couple of years old.  I mistakingly left them outside for the winter, and they got extra dirty come spring.  Good news though is that they easily come off from the cushion material and are machine washable, making them look like new!

Look at the fun light pattern that the lantern gives off all around the area!  I love it so much!!!!  (just behind this space is our hot tub, leaving the lights another calming and cozy light setting to look at while in the hot tub!)

This is the highlight of the entire outdoor space!  This lantern has so many detailed shapes and reflects those as it gives off light!  When I wrote this, I was sad to find out that this lantern was out of stock.  Therefore, I had to find a good replacement to recommend to you that looked similar.

A note to those that order this lantern – it comes flat in a box upon arrival after shipping.  You will need to stretch it out to create the oblong shape.  Mine needed a couple of days in the heat to fully expand and create a symmetrical oblong shape.  So don’t worry if yours looks crooked right when you take it out of the box – it will take a symmetrical shape in the heat!
