Want to know one more reason why I think Wegmans is the best grocery store on the planet?? They offer Helping Hands!
Here is a story that I’ve been wanting to share with my fellow Wegmans shoppers for your enjoyment:
A few weeks back, we had torrential rains in upstate NY. Many towns around me and significant flooding.
I remember that morning was the first morning of my daughter’s Vacation Bible School. And not just casual summer time rain – like Noah flooding rain!
I was debating if I should even be on the roads that morning, (only to find out a couple of hours later there really was a travel advisory) but I kept moving forward getting my little girl to her VBS adventures.
I kept tellling her that this is how “a car swims” as we drove trough flooded parts of the road. After I dropped her off, I had planned on going grocery shopping – as I typically do on Monday mornings.
After dropping my oldest off at VBS, I persisted onward to my shopping journey because I knew I had just one child with me instead of 2 (which meant easier shopping), and I really needed milk, and I truly wanted to get my shopping done whether it was pouring or not.
Once I got to the Wegmans parking lot, I discovered it wasn’t busy. Shocker. I was the only one crazy enough to be out shopping in the torrential downpours. I’m sure I was a pretty funny site walking into the store. My flip-flop covered feet were soaked, my jeans were wet up to my shins, my umbrella was broken and I had to try and fit us both under it while holding it with my neck and push the cart at the same time. I managed to get into the store, sloshing and dripping, but got my shopping done.
While I was cashing out, the cashier was so very kind and offered helping hands since she saw my hands were full with a baby, and it was still pouring. I had never used this service before, because well, I was never this desperate for help shopping before. 🙂
They took my cart full of bagged groceries in the store while I borrowed one of their umbrellas to get us into the car, almost without getting wet! I drove my car up to the front of the store, and a Helping Hands employee packed up my car for me!
Thank you Wegmans for being so awesome – especially for helping out crazy mom shoppers who decide to shop with a baby and broken umbrella when it hasn’t rained that hard in years! 🙂

I also used Helping Hands only recently. Toward the end of my pregnancy I was making less frequent grocery shopping trips, which meant my cart was loaded fuller than normal when I did go. And when you need to get toilet paper (& get the huge club packs), that’s like a cart full in itself! I really had to throw my back into it by the time I was checking out. Well the full cart also meant that, although I had fit everything in the cart initially, the clerk couldn’t necessarily fit it all back in once it was bagged. They have several times offered Helping Hands to bring a 2nd cart (both of which end up full!) which they follow me to the car with. I prefer to pack it into my car myself but they always offer to help there too!

I would to share a true helping hand Helping hand experience that happened to me today. It been a very busy day and I guess I was tired. I dropped my keys down the man hole of storm drain. The key was only key and I had no spare. My van was full of just purchased groceries including perishable items. I came to Helping Hands guys seeking for help. They strageterized how we could do it and gathered tools that could help. With their gracious help I was able to get my keys. I want to shout out to Cory, Dmitri and the other guys (sorry I don’t know your names) for your lifesaving help.
