Here is another easy frugal recipe: pesto ham sandwich. I experimented with mixing basil pesto and honey mustard to make a honey mustard pesto sauce and it turned out yummy! Some may call this the Ham and Cheese Pesto Toastie. Honey Basil Grilled Cheese also works! Whatever you want to call it, you’ll want to try it and never go back to boring plain grilled cheese ever again!
Ingredients:
Whole wheat bread
French’s Gourmet Honey Mustard Dipping Sauce Gourmet Garden Herb Blend Basil, $4.99 (found in produce section of Wegmans) You could just use fresh basil leaves (which would be cheaper, espeically in season.) But in the dead of winter, I love using these herb blend pastes! Or use pesto!
Thin Shaved Honey Smoked Wegmans Ham
Colby Cheese
Tomato
PREPARATION For Pesto Ham Sandwich Grilled Cheese with Honey Mustard!:
- Spread honey mustard on each slice of bread.
- Top with the Gourmet Garden herb basil and mix together for a smooth mustard pesto sauce.
- Top with ham, cheese, and tomato.
- Butter the outside of the bread and grill until golden brown!
- I served this with a side of Ore Idea Hash Browns (because of the recent Ibotta rebate) mixed with Recipe Ready peppers and onions (because they were free.) You can serve this sandwich with a potato, vegetable or rice of your choice.
