Are you looking for easy DIY glitter ornaments to make this holiday season? Here is a great project where you or your kids can make glitter Christmas ornaments!! All you need are clear plastic ornaments, some glitter glue (the best way to use glitter that is mess-free!), and a shiny bow!
Using glitter glue, rather than actual glitter, is the best method, and my personal favorite way to create glitter crafts. These are perfect ornaments to add to your Christmas tree, or add to a gift. This step-by-step tutorial on how to make glitter ornaments using glue is the easiest way to help make your tree have extra sparkle this year!
Materials Needed To Make This Glitter Ornament With Glue:
(affiliate links)
- Glitter glue (or get at a dollar store for cheaper!)
- Empty clear plastic ornament balls (you may be able to find these in a craft store as well. I avoid using clear glass ornaments because they just break too easily.)
- A shiny Christmas bow you can cut up
- White and gold string to hang the ornament
- Small bells or jingle bells or stars to add to the outside
Instructions on how to make a glitter ornament using glue:
- Take your glitter glue and just randomly squirt a generous amount of glitter glue on the entire inside of the ornament on both halves of the empty clear plastic ball. I did this in three different stages. After the first application, let it dry for 24 hours. You will notice that your glue lines get significantly smaller when it dries. So then I added more and let it dry, and added a third squirt until I was happy with the glitter design. I don’t think there is any worry here about excess glue since you want as much sparkle as you can get on the inside of the ornaments. I chose to use the traditional Christmas colors of red and green glitter. But go ahead and experiment with other glitter colors as well! You could even try an ombre glitter ornament if you have access to various shades of one color glitter glue!
2. To enhance the shininess of the ornament, I also filled it with a cut up red shiny bow to give it a stronger, glittery effect. So go ahead, get a shiny Christmas bow, and cut it into approximately one-inch pieces that you will place in the two halves.
3. When you are placing the cut up bow, place the pieces shine side out on both sides so you can see the red bow shine behind the glitter glue. Fill both sides pretty full so that they won’t move around once the ornament is put together.
4. Carefully and quickly put the two halves together. They do fit pretty snug. If you are nervous about it coming apart (like in case it got dropped,) you could use some washi tape around the edge as I did in this other clear bulb ornament filled with Christmas Carol lyrics I made here.
5. Then you can add Small bells or jingle bells or stars to add to the outside. Thread them through the gold and white string and tie the string for hanging purposes.
6. Now it is ready to add to your festive tree! Or make a bunch of these and tie them to the outside of gift bags, as a cute addition to a present!
You can have your kids make these easy glitter ornaments for their teachers or grandparents! These pretty ornaments give off extra sparkle and the best part is that there is zero glitter clean-up! Your kids will have a blast being able to squeeze glitter glue all over the inside of the curved surface of the entire ornament.
