If you ask any mom what gift she wants for Mother’s Day, she will probably tell you that she doesn’t need anything and she wants to spend time with her family. So why not make this Mother’s Day memorable for that special woman in your life—whether it’s your mom, grandma or wife – by giving her what she really wants? Besides the traditional breakfast-in-bed and gift giving operations, add a little something extra this year with a variety of fun activities that the whole family will enjoy. Check out the ideas below that are sure to bring special family memories that honor mom.

Sometimes, the right gifts for grandma or for mom are those that don’t come in a box. Make Mother’s Day special this year by organizing a picnic in the park (or in your backyard). It’s the perfect way to enjoy some time in the sun and take advantage of the warm spring weather. Prepare a basket of delicious treats and drinks, pack a few blankets and think of some outdoor games which you could all play together.
Crafts Workshop
Does the woman in your life like to create her own jewelry? Or does she love painting or crafting ceramic vases? Whatever her hobby may be, brainstorm a few ideas with your family as to what you could all do together on Mother’s Day. Make sure you prepare all the tools you will need in advance – clay, paint, paper, utensils – and just have fun creating art together on this special day.
Game Night

This may be a classic one, but it never gets old. A fun night in which all the family can enjoy playing games and having a laugh together is always a great idea, especially on Mother’s Day. It gives all the participants, mom, dad, kids and even grandma, a chance to spend some quality time together as a family. All you have to do is find a few kid-friendly board games (purchase them in advance if you have to) and enjoy! From the classic Monopoly to Five Second Rule, there are plenty of options out there to choose from, just find your favorite.
Karaoke Party
Channel your inner star and rock it out at karaoke night. You don’t need to go to a karaoke bar to enjoy singing along to your favorite tunes, you can DIY a karaoke station at home. The only thing you have to do is pull up YouTube, follow the lyrics and sing along. Most songs these days have a karaoke version available, so this should be easy enough. If you really want to turn up the volume on fun, you can order online an affordable microphone (or karaoke kit) and use it to create a real show.
Make-Your-Own Pizza

What a better way of combining an activity, a meal and a craft at the same time than by making your own pizza? Gather all your family around the kitchen table and have fun creating delicious pizzas. Start with the basic pizza dough – which you pre-made or defrosted – and add your favorite toppings, from a variety of cheeses, sauces, or roasted veggies. When done, bake your masterpieces and enjoy devouring them with your whole family.
Watch a Family Movie
Enjoying a nice movie in the evening is the perfect ending to a day full of fun activities. From the classics like The Wizard of Oz to the very popular Harry Potter, there are plenty of options to choose from. As a family we are personally enjoying watching episodes of The Chosen right now. All you have to do is find a movie that all the family can watch and enjoy and you’re good to go. But don’t forget the snacks! Always stock up on your favorite treats beforehand. After all, what is a movie night without popcorn?
Flip Through Old Photo Albums
It’s time to take out your photo albums and relive your best memories! From birthday parties and family vacations to graduations and much more, there are so many special memories that these albums hold. Even if all your photos are digital, it’s still easy to have fun while reminiscing on those special times. My daughters love it when I pull out their baby books and tell them stories about when they were babies and toddlers!
Beach Day
It may not be bikini season yet, but this doesn’t mean that you can’t enjoy a nice day at the beach, playing sports with the kids or building sandcastles. After all, the weather is warm and the sun is lighting up the sky. The picture above is when we went to the Outerbanks in NC this past February. We were one of the few families on the beach. Even though it was in the high 60’s and sunny, a family from New York in February was VERY happy! My youngest was determined to wear her bathing suit and get a little wet even though the water was super cold! 🙂
Even if you aren’t going swimming, the fact that you can spend Mother’s Day together, enjoying what nature has to offer, is a great gift for moms and grandmas everywhere.
This coming Mother’s Day, be sure to make the mom in your life feel special. Whether it’s a unique gift, or just a fun idea listed above that helps you spend time with her, make sure the mom in your life feels loved, appreciated, and gets something special on her day!!
