Many hours of the day I’m in front of my computer finding awesome deals, or creating fun frugal crafts or recipes. When I’m not doing that, I’m doing my mom jobs – like carrying my toddler and cleaning.
Because of these things, I feel like my shoulder muscles are chronically tight and tense, and I feel like I need a massage all. day. long.
I actually did give in and get a real professional massage in late February that was just glorious. It has helped a lot, but my lifestyle has not changed, so I still suffer from tense shoulders and neck muscles.
I’ve tried numerous OTC pain relief creams.
Some work ok – but they either smell awful (hello wintergreen medicine cabinet) or they don’t give me much relief. Some will tingle a bit, but I still felt the pain, or they are flat out burning and painful.
Just last week I got my hands on LivRelief to try one more OTC pain relief cream.
I liked it first of all because it has zero odor! The active ingredient is capsaicin, 0.075%. This is the chemical that makes hot peppers hot.
I have tried another cream in the past with capsaicin as the active ingredient, except the amount in the cream was 0.1% and it burned me so bad that I was googling on how to get rid of the cream on my skin.
Turns out that capsaicin is a basic compound, so I needed to neutralize it by putting acidic lemon juice on my skin.
Then the burning sensation was relieved. I’ve never tried it again because of that horrible experience and how painful the cream was!
I was a bit nervous as I tried LivRelief and had the lemon juice on hand again just in case. But, after a few minutes of LivRelief on my skin – I only felt a gentle warming feeling and it did not burn.
It was the perfect amount of capsaicin. Who would have thought that 0.025% would make that much of a difference – but it did! I also noticed my shoulders just relaxed and I wasn’t in pain when I was in front of the computer!
My pain story is minimal though compared to my mother’s. She has arthritis and sciatic nerve pain and has a prescription for narcotic pain pills.
I decided to let her try this cream, since every time I walk into her house, I get a giant waft of the Ben-Gay smell as she continually uses OTC pain reliever creams to help, instead of using her prescription.
She was hesitant to try LivRelief too since the active ingredient was capsaicin. She also has tried the cream that literally burned her skin and left her red for days.
I told her that this cream had less capsaicin in it, and it didn’t burn like that when I tried it.
She called later that day after she used LivRelief and and she said, “You know – my pain is not 100% gone, but it sure does feel better! It’s better than that other OTC cream (with menthol as the active ingredient) and it’s not burning my skin off!”
Her testimony I thought was more powerful than my own because I know her pain levels are more severe than my own.
