How to Raise and Release your Own Monarch Butterflies! Update – Sad News

In case you didn’t read my post yesterday, head there now and you can find out how I’m raising and releasing my own monarch butterflies.

The sad news is that Tiny didn’t make it.  I’ll admit that I was concerned he wasn’t in the best of health when I saw him belly up on the leaf late yesterday.  Now he’s just laying very still at the bottom of the vase, never able to lead the life as a butterfly.  🙁

But, there is good news!  As predicted, Fatty McGee is currently setting up stage for his chrysalis.  As you can see, there is some white blurry stuff that looks like a concentrated area of spider web type material.  That is where he will hang from.  I bet he’s in full chrysalis garb by tomorrow morning at the latest.

Middle Man is doing great, muching away at the milkweed leafs I’ve been feeding them.

Check out all the poops!  I dump those out once a day.  They are dried little pellets, so its very easy clean-up.  🙂
