Nothing sets the stage for the holiday spirit to spread among your home like the scent of fresh pine or fir trees! That’s why today I’m going to show you how to make easy DIY scented Pinecones for the Holidays!
I personally have always had an artificial Christmas tree, so I do not have the small pleasure of the scent of a real tree in my home. To make up for it, I love making these scented pine cones for the holidays, using essential oils.
This is super easy to do – and it’s lovely to have the seasonal aroma around my home!
How To Make DIY Scented Pine cones For The Holidays
What You’ll Need:
- Pine cones (I got mine from my own pine tree or you can order some on Amazon)
- Essential oils – I like cinnamon, pine, and balsam fir
- Gallon sized plastic bags
If you got your pine cones from your own trees outside, then you’ll want to bake them at 200º for at least 30 minutes. That will kill off any critters that may be living in your pine cones that you won’t want crawling around your house!
It’s really simple to make your own DIY scented pine cones. Basically you just choose the essential oils you want your pine cones to smell like, add the essential oils to the pine cones in a plastic bag, let them “soak up the scent” for a day, and then you have scented pine cones!
There are 2 different holiday scents that are my favorite – a blend of cinnamon essential oil and pine essential oil. Or Fir Balsam essential oil alone – as its the classic smell of an evergreen tree!
Place your baked and dried pine cones in a gallon sized plastic bag. Then add 10 drops of cinnamon and 10 drops of pine.
Or add 20 drops of Balsam Fir. Seal the plastic bag and gently shake the pine cones with the oil. Let the pine cones sit in the sealed bag for at least 24 hours so that the essential oil molecules diffuse throughout all of the cones.
Then you can open them up and add them to your Christmas decor around your home! I have this basket on my hutch filled with some fake berries and glitter boughs that I added the scented pine cones to.
If you notice the scent fading – then just grab your bottle and add a drop of your favorite essential oil onto the pine cones again to revive the holiday season scent you want around your home!
