When I am not blogging, I spend a lot of time serving for my local chapter of MOPS (Mother’s of Pre-schoolers). I am so very very thankful for the group of women that plod along this motherhood journey with me!
Next year’s theme at MOPS is “Be You Bravely.” Check out this Be You Bravely 3 minute video clip put out by MOPS that better explains the theme. “The feather is a symbol for courage because feathers enable flight. They are a building block of risking heights. A first flight requires bravery to jump from the nest. A bird will fail to experience all that they were made for if they fail to fly. The same thing is true for all of us.”
I am actually going to be one of the Co-Coordinators of our group next year. I have been brainstorming a frugal way to decorate for our group next year and what is pictured above is what I came up with. 🙂
Materials Needed (we will have 4 different discussion group tables, so we are doing this 4 times, with a different color for each table.)
Styrofoam ring – purchase from craft store or Dollar Tree for $5 or less
Vase from Walmart – $0.97
Ribbon – in blue, yellow, pink, and green. I spent $3 per color on ribbon.
White Candle from Dollar Tree – $1
Feather Boa on Amazon for about $6. I also found a bunch at the Dollar Tree that are about half of the length as the 72″ ones on Amazon, so I needed two per Styrofoam ring.
Feather Turning into a Flock of Birds Vinyl Decal for $5.99 + shipping (although the prices keeps changing on this one!)
I just loved this decal as it showed the feather turning into birds – perfect for representing that brave flight we are all focusing on as our goal. (and apparently this is a popular tattoo image as well??)
For each centerpiece, I wrapped and hot glued ribbon around the plain white candle. I placed the candle inside the vase.
I placed the feather/bird flight decal on the vase. That goes inside the Styrofoam ring that has the white feather boas wrapped and hot glued on the ring.
Then there is a satin table runner that matches each of the ribbon colors.
In our discussion groups, we will also use a Feather stencil and create our own white feathers Satin Table Top Runner.
We will have 4 different colors, blue, yellow, pink and green, and each group will be able to embellish their own table runner with their individual feathers.
Here is the yellow version.
