How to Save on Printer Ink! Coupon Printers, Listen Up!

Even though us couponers get items for dirt cheap or free, we sometimes also have to take in account the extra money we spend on either a newspaper subscription, money spent on a coupon clipping service, or our printer, printer ink, and printer paper costs.

I just got some interesting info from MarketYze about the cheapest printer ink:

1.  Of the 9 major brands of printer ink – Brother is consistently the cheapest.  Regardless whether you’re shopping at Amazon, a smaller e-tailer like Shoplet.com, or buying from retailers like Office Depot, Target or Staples (in-store or online), Brother ink almost always comes out the cheapest – both for ink jet and laser printers.  Innovera ink is 2^nd (also for both categories).

So if you are considering purchasing a new printer, you might want to start by looking at Brother Printers!

2.  E-tailers (Amazon, OfficeSupply.com, Shoplet.com) change their printer ink prices almost daily, while for retailers like Staples, Office Depot and Wal-Mart, the price is likely to stay the same for the whole month.  If an e-tailer’s price is higher than a retailer’s – wait another day and check again.  It could be dramatically lower in just 24 hours. 

 3.  Staples & Office Depot’s printer ink prices are identical 95% of the time!

I currently have a Kodak ESP 2170 USB 20 Ethernet Wireless N Color Inkjet Scanner Copier Fax Photo Printer w Card Reader & 15 LCD that I got for $50 awhile back on a daily deal site.  It prints great, but I go through ink quickly, so I am wondering if I could save if I had a Brother printer instead!

Another thing to note, is that if you buy refurbished ink cartridges, you can also significantly reduce ink prices!  BUT, you have to find a printer model that does ok with refurbished ink.  I used refurbished ink on an Epson printer about a year ago.  The ink and the price of that ink was great, but it did clog the printer heads I’m sure earlier than it should have, causing me to have to throw it out because the print quality became terrible.  But you could strike gold if you get a printer that lasts awhile on refurbished ink!
