Today’s Crafting From Your Stockpile post is how to make toothpaste putty!
With these crafts I’ve been coming up with projects using the products that us couponers get quite frequently for free/dirt cheap. One of those items is: TOOTHPASTE! I discovered that you can make a putty with toothpaste as the ingredient. Here’s the recipe for Toothpaste Putty: 1/2 Tablespoon toothpaste (creamy, not gel, although I used a half creamy/half gel paste and it turned out ok) 1 Tablespoon white glue 2 Tablespoons cornstarch 1/2 Tablespoon water
Here is the concoction from the ingredients listed above. I also added some glitter glue to the toothpaste putty for aestetic reasons.
Now you can use this toothpaste putty for many things. This is a great homemade “play-doh” of sorts that the kids can just play with and sculpt out of. I decided to make some beads out of it. I just rolled a little bit in my hand, and then put it on a toothpick to make the hole. I left them to dry for 24 hours to make sure they were rock hard. When taking them off of the toothpick, try and pull them straight off of the toothpick without twisting. I cracked a few of them when trying to get them off of the toothpick. 🙁
Maybe plastic toothpicks should be used instead as they might not bond with the drying bead as much? I had some store bought beads on hand already that I was going to use to make my own necklace (I hit up the bead clearance rack at Michaels not too long ago!) So I decided to incorporate my new homemade beads into the necklace. I think this is a great necklace – and no one would know that part of the necklace was made from toothpaste!!
Who else has a fun craft project involving an item you’ve gotten for free using coupons? Or if you make a project out of your own Toothpaste Putty, I’d love to read about it! Send them my way for possible posting! Check out other Crafting From Your Stockpile Ideas I’ve shared. I have more on the way….stay tuned!!!

This is a great idea! I have a great idea for Christmas decorations! I wonder if you use cooking spray on the toothpick before you place it on the bead. Not sure if it would prevent the putty from hardening properly!

And thanks for the cooking spray tip – I may just try that next time I make this putty! 🙂
