Making the Most of Your Laundry Room Size

Making the Most of Your Laundry Room Size

*This is a sponsored post.  All opinions are my own.*

An average American family does about ten loads of laundry every week. What that means is the laundry room is one of the most used spaces in the house. It is therefore very easy for chaos to build, especially if you have limited space. You need to come up with ways you can make the most out of the available space.

How to Optimize your Laundry Room No Matter The Size:

Here are the several storage tricks you can use to create space for everything you need in your laundry room.

1. Get a Drying Rack that Can Be Hanged from the Ceiling

Yes, you heard that right. The ceiling too can be of use. It is so easy for all the space in the walls of your laundry room to get exhausted. The ceiling can be used to hang clothes. Not all items can be put in the dryer, and you will need to air dry them. For that reason, you will need a drying rack in your laundry room to handle this group of items. Limited space in your room may make it almost impossible to accommodate a drying rack. A hanging drying rack would take care of this: get your clothes to dry and help with space-saving.

2. Let the Curtains Do the Trick

Doors tend to take up a lot of space. But you may still need to keep your laundry room covered. You have the option of using curtains to cover the room. They offer the best protection and at the same time, take up the least space.

3. Add Shelving to Your Laundry Room

Corners come in handy when a room is full. The corners in your laundry room will help you make the most of the space you have. All you need to do is get shelves that will fit in the spaces. There is a lot that you can store there: towels, detergents, and other cleaning supplies. They often add to the clutter in your laundry room if you leave them lying around.

The beauty about shelves is that they can be used in several ways: including decorating your laundry room. You could place your beautiful art pieces on these.

4. Have a Space for Folding

Having clothes lying around and not having a designated area to keep them will make your laundry room look even smaller. It is necessary that you have a small folding station. It could be something as simple as a foldable counter. You can mount it on your wall and have more space for your laundry work. A foldable one would be a good pick as you can fold it up to create even more space when you are not using it.

5. Get Pedestal Drawers

To save on space, you can have dryer pedestals installed. They are basically metal platforms that are placed beneath the washer and dryers. On top of increasing accessibility, they also serve as a storage option. The storage space is usually a lot such that you would not even need closets and other storage spaces. Unfortunately, some dryer models do not support this. Therefore, if you are looking to get a new dryer, ensure that it has this feature. If your washer or dryer has been around for a while, all is not lost. You can contact the manufacturer and ask if it is possible to fit the unit.

6. The Bookshelf Could Also Come in Handy

There are no restrictions on the kind of furniture that you can use in the laundry room. Do you have a bookshelf that is not being put into use? It can become instrumental in the organization of your laundry room. It will provide enough space to store clothes and other cleaning materials.

7. Use the Doors

People tend to forget the fact that doors too, provide storage spaces. You can, for instance, get a hanging shoe rack to place on your door: place your shoes there to dry after you clean them. The same goes for clothes: you can get hooks or hangers to hold the delicate items as they dry.

8. Use Baskets to Store Your Items

Storage baskets can also come in handy in creating more space for your items. You could place them on your shelves and use them to store detergents and other items used in cleaning, or even the clothes. The good thing is that you can stack them vertically to create more space.

9.  Your laundry drying does not always have to be indoors.

If you usually have a lot of clothes to hang, be sure to utilize the outdoors during good weather for drying your clothes!  That way, you will be able to ease the burden in the laundry room or other places in your home that you’d take up space in order for clothes to dry.

Together with the tips provided, you should not have trouble with space in your laundry room, no matter your laundry room size!
